COBRA Administration

AvMed offers COBRA administration to Employers through a partnership with WageWorks. Benefits continuation requires Employers to meet the increasing demands of a knowledgeable workforce, while satisfying ever-changing Leave of Absence and COBRA regulations.

This partnership provides the latest technology and regulatory information. The system ensures program compliance, while delivering the best service experience available. Members receive easy-to-understand materials and a reliable source for answering their plan-related questions. COBRA rules are established at the Federal or State level depending on the size of the Employer group:

Federal COBRA - This federal law applies to Employers with 20 or more employees, including self-insured Employers. It does not apply to group health plans established or maintained by the federal government or to church plans established and maintained by a church that is tax exempt under section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Federal COBRA is administered by a Third Party Administrator.

State (Mini) COBRA – Administered by dedicated EPS Associates, Mini COBRA provides similar continuation of coverage protection for employees who work for Employers with fewer than 20 employees.

While eligibility rules are the same under State and Federal COBRA, the notification requirements differ. To get more information on COBRA, call your AvMed Sales Representative.
